BMW has signed a deal to become the main sponsor of the FIBT World Cup and title sponsor of FIBT World Championships ©BMWBMW has signed a deal to extend its sponsorship of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) flagship events.

The agreement, sealed by Infront Sports and Media, will see the German automotive giant acting as the official main sponsor of the 2015 World Cup races and the title sponsor of the 2015 World Championships, due to take place in Winterberg, Germany, from February 23 to March 3.

As part of the deal, the BMW logo will feature on advertising banners, on athletes' helmets and on sleds, as well as on all communication materials, while BMW will provide cars for dedicated shuttle services.

"We are very happy about the commitment of BMW in bobsleigh and skeleton," FIBT President Ivo Ferriani said.

"The BMW brand and excellence in automobiles is outstanding and highly regarded worldwide.

"The company also holds a successful tradition as a committed partner of winter sports.

"On behalf of the FIBT and all the athletes, I can say that we are looking forward to the premiere season with our new main sponsor BMW and particularly to the BMW FIBT Bob and Skeleton World Championship in Germany."

For BMW, the sponsorship is expected to provide significant exposure, with the FIBT World Cup competitions being broadcast to 17 countries around the world, including Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Canada, Latvia and the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, coverage of the competitions reached a cumulative audience of 497 million watching a total of 707 broadcast hours in the 2013-2014 season, it is claimed.

"Looking back on the tradition of BMW's involvement in the bobsleigh sport, we have been connected with the German Bobsleigh and Luge Federation through our technology partnership since 2010," Friedrich Edel, head of sports marketing at BMW Germany, said.

"Starting this season, BMW will now also be present at an international level as a partner of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation."
