The signing ceremony took place during the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) currently taking place here. 

The MoU was signed by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) chairman Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair and and Australian Olympic Committee President John Coates.

Taha Al Kishry, general secretary of the OOC, also attended the ceremony.

The signing of the MoU comes within the framework of the OOC's efforts to take advantage of the sports expertise and experience of international organsitations in order to help the Sultanate's athletes and teams to develop their talents and improve performance as well as raise the level of national teams, players, technical and administrative bodies.

Oman made its Olympic debut at Los Angeles in 1984 and has competed in every Summer Games since.

But they are still waiting to win their first medal. 

At London 2012 they sent a team of four competitors, three in athletics and one in shooting.
