Tollcross International Swimming Centre is to follow this year's Commonwealth Games by hosting next year's IPC Swimming Championships ©Getty ImagesGlasgow has begun the application process to recruit volunteers for next years International Paralympic Committeee (IPC) Swimming World Championships next year.


The event, due to take place at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre from July 13 to 19, will be hoping to tap into the enthusiasm shared by so many people who worked as Cylde-siders during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow earlier this year.

Recruitment is through an online application process at www.paralympic.org/glasgow-2015/volunteer.

The final deadline for applications is January 30. 

A range of roles are available, including transport, meet and greet, media operations and accreditation, as well as some more sport-specific roles.

"Volunteers will play a central role in the delivery of the Championships, welcoming the world to Glasgow," said Natasha Cuthbert, Glasgow 2015 project manager. 

"The Games Makers at London 2012, and more recently the Clyde-Siders at the Commonwealth Games, have really changed the face of sports volunteering in the UK

"This is another great opportunity to be involved in a major global Championships event, helping us to provide the athletes and fans with a fantastic experience in 2015."

The World Championships are expected to see more than 650 athletes from more than 60 countries compete for medals and qualification at Rio 2016. 

The competition forms part of UK Sport's Gold Event Series, £27 million (€34 million) National Lottery funded initiative which aims to bring up to 70 world-class sporting events to the UK by 2019.

The event is also supported by EventScotland, the events directorate of national tourism organisation VisitScotland.

The venue will be the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, the same pool that hosted the hugely successful and popular swimming competitions at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in July and the 2013 Duel in the Pool between the USA and the European Allstars.
