Riders with a significant impairment in either one or both legs (SB LL-1), such as an amputation above the knee or muscle weakness, will be separated from those who have an impairment in either one or both legs with less activity limitation (SB LL-2), for example an amputation below the knee or mild spasticity.

The 2014-2015 season is due to begin with the World and Europa Cups in Landgraaf, The Netherlands, on November 19 and 20, and is scheduled to include the 2015 IPC Para-Snowboard World Championships in La Molina, Spain, from February 23 to 28.

A total of three medal events will be contested at each IPC Alpine Skiing Para-snowboard competition, for upper-limb impaired riders and the two new classes for athletes with lower-limb impairments.

There will be classification opportunities for athletes in Landgraaf and Aspen, the United States, in January.

The IPC Alpine Skiing announcement follows the successful Paralympics debut of snowboarding at Sochi 2014 and a series of developments within the sport, including the introduction of banked slalom and an addition to the format of cross competitions, meaning riders will now race head-to-head after an initial qualification round.
