A deal for next year's SportAccord Convention to be held in Sochi has been officially signed between Marius Vizer and Alexander Tkachev, Governor of the Krasnodar Region.
The 13th annual convention, due to take place between April 19 and 24 in the city which successfully hosted this year's Winter Olympics and Paralympics, is set to be the biggest in the event's history with more than 7,500 delegates expected to attend.
Vizer, President of SportAccord and SportAccord Convention, revealed that the event next year will mark the beginning of a new direction - World Sport and Business Summit, making it far more wide-ranging than in previous years.
"Bringing the SportAccord Convention to Sochi is the best way to integrate the Olympic legacy for the benefit of global sport and local society in a joint project with SportAccord, which combines sport with business, integrating media, marketing, sports suppliers, energy, culture, art, and education," he said.
The Convention is set to be the next major event to take place in Sochi following yesterday's successful Russian Grand Prix, a race won by Britain's Lewis Hamilton before a crowd that included Russian President Vladimir Putin.
There will be high hopes that Putin will also attend next year's Convention having visited the event the last time it was held in Russia, in St Petersburg last year.
"SportAccord Convention is a unique platform for the interaction of many sports organisations and International Sport Federations, and we are honoured to host the Convention as it is very important for Russia to continue the development of Sochi as one of the most important sporting cities in the world," said Tkachev.
