Wheelchair tennis players Yui Kamiji of Japan and Briton Jordanne Whiley make the list after claiming their fourth women's Grand Slam doubles title of the year at the US Open, becoming the first non-Dutch pairing to do so.

Kamiji, 20, also broke Dutch dominance in the women's singles competition by claiming her second Grand Slam of the year with victory over The Netherlands' defending champion Aniek Van Koot in New York.

Two other athletes to impress on American soil in September were Jamie Whitmore and Eduardo Avila Sanchez.

Whitmore delighted home fans in Greenville, South Carolina by adding two more world titles to her collection with victory in the C3 events at the Para-cycling Road World Championships.

The American claimed four gold medals at the Para-cycling Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico back in April.

At the International Blind Sports Federation Judo World Championships in Colorado Springs, Mexican Sanchez caused an upset by defeating reigning Paralympic champion Olexandr Kosinov of Ukraine in the men's under 81 kilogram final.
