The Games' Organising Committee (GUOC) has signed an agreement with Korea's market leader, founded in 1950, who will provide water and beverages for all participating athletes, referees, judges and volunteers at the event.

As well as being given the rights to use the title of official sponsor and the Games' logo, Lotte Chilsung will also be allowed to advertise on A-boards in the competition's venues.

Using these rights, they will produce and promote a special edition beverage commemorating the Games.

GUOC chairman Yoon Jang-hyun, who was joined at the signing by GUOC secretary general Kim Yoon-suk and Lotte Chilsung chief executive Lee Jae-hyuk, said: "We are thankful that a leading beverage company such as Lotte Chilsung has been able to join us as an official sponsor for the Games.

"As the Universiade is the only multi-sporting event with the participation of global university students, it is expected that Lotte Chilsung will also be able to grow into a global brand through this sponsorship."

The Games will be held next year from July 3 to 14 with 20,000 athletes participating from around 170 countries.

Lee commented: "It is very meaningful that Lotte Chilsung can participate as a sponsor for the Gwangju Universiade.

"We will provide all the necessary support needed for the successful delivery of the event."
