The Australian Sports Commission has officially recognised a new unified Sports Taekwondo Australia ©Sports Taekwondo Australia The Australian Sports Commission has formally recognised a new unified national taekwondo body made up of Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) and Taekwondo Australia Ltd.

The merged STA comes after the two parties, who both originally claimed to run the sport in the country, signed an agreement last November to join forces going forward and its first meeting as a unified body is scheduled to take place in Melbourne on Sunday.

The Board announced the appointment of business figure John Walker, who is chairman of Macquarie Group of Companies - a former global partner of the World Taekwondo Federation - and the Australia Korea Business Council, as its new independent chairperson.

This year's Australian National Taekwondo Championships will take place at Adelaide's Super-Drome from December 5 to 7.

The STA said it is finalising details of its membership packages for next year and will release more information following their approval at this month's Board meeting.
