Guo, who is ranked 26th on the WTF's Olympic ranking list, was up against number two ranked Johansson in the final of the women's under 67 kilogram category and showed no signs of nerves or weakness, prevailing on a scoreline of 4-3.

As well as claiming the gold medal, the Chinese athlete picked up a winner's cheque for $5,000 (£3,000/€3,800).

Russia's Anastasia Baryshnikova and Chinese Taipei's Yann-Yeu Chen secured the two bronze medals on offer.

In the men's under 58kg class gold went to Chinese Taipei's Chen Yang Wei after he overcame Farzan Ashour Zadeh Fallah of Iran in an exciting contest.

Chen is ranked second on the WTF Olympic list and his superior class showed in the end as he emerged with a 9-5 win.

Lucas Guzman of Argentina and Australian Safwan Khalil stood on the third step of the podium after securing bronze medals in their respective matches.

Iran had better fortunes in the men's under 80kg category.

Mehdi Khodabakhshi was gearing up for a tough battle with the United States' Steven Lopez in the decider but the American was forced to pull out of the contest due to injury.

Lopez injured his arm during his quarterfinal win over Aaron Cook of Great Britain and despite coming through his semi-final he was unable to carry on, handing Khodabakhshi the gold.

The bronze medals went to Cook's team mate Damon Sansum and Frenchman Torann Maizeroi.

The Grand Prix action at the Daulet Sporting Complex in the Kazakhstan capital concludes tomorrow Sunday (August 31) with the women's under 57kg and men's under 68kg categories.
