Technogym will supply 1,000 piece of equipment at Rio 2016 ©TechnogymTechnogym has signed an exclusive contract to supply fitness equipment for all "athletic preparation centres" at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The fitness and wellness products firm is expected to supply 1,000 pieces of equipment for the main training centre at the Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca.

Fifteen centres and warm-up areas specially designed for different disciplines will be equipped.

It will install a Mywellness cloud digital platform to allow athletes to connect directly on the equipment or from their mobile devices with their personal training programme.

Technogym will also have a team of 50 professional athletic trainers on hand in Rio to support the athletes and help with installation and technical needs.

The company has been involved in every Summer Olympics since Sydney 2000, as well as the Turin 2006 Winter Games.

Technogym was founded in 1983 and employs around 2,220 staff in 14 branches in Europe, the United States, Asia, the Middle East, Australia and South America.

It says it has equipped 65,000 wellness centres and more than 100,000 homes around the world.

Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman said: "The needs of athletes are always at the forefront of our thinking and so ensuring we have top of the range equipment available for their use is vital.

"We are going to work together over the next two years."
