The Jamaican clocked a time of 12.96sec over the distance to decimate the chasing pack and secure gold in a victory comparable to that of compatriot Usain Bolt's in the 100m at Beijing 2008.

Hyde's gold was not the first for his nation in a day that saw 13 athletics gold medals up for grabs.

That honour went to Martin Manley after he produced a stunning run to win gold in the men's 400m in the early morning session.

Despite the double golden success for Jamaica, the day belonged, yet again, to the Chinese as they won a whopping eight gold medals to surge clear at the head of the medals table.

The gold medal rush began at the Natatorium where diver Shengping Wu stormed to victory in the women's 10m platform to add the Youth Olympic title to a multitude of golds in the World Diving Series.

China's medal hunt continued in the modern pentathlon as Xiuting Zhong ensured top honours with a total score of 1,054 points.

Individual table tennis champion Fan Zhendong and Gaoyang Liu teamed up in the international mixed teams event to add a second gold medal to their Youth Olympic campaigns.

This was added to inside the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium with gold medals for Zhenxia Ma in the women's 5,000m walk race, Yulong Cheng in the men's discus, Kangping Sun in the women's discus and Xiaojing Ling in the women's 100m.

Yan Wang added the final gold of the night for the hosts as she vaulted to victory in the women's vault competition.

Other notable victories this evening came courtesy of Armenia's Simon Martirosyan, who lifted his way to a clean and jerk record of 221 kilograms en route to gold in the over 85kg weightlifting division, and Zambia's Sydney Siame, winner of his country's first ever Olympic gold medal with victory in the men's 100m final.

Russia also added a touch of class in the gymnastics, winning a hat-trick of golds in the men's pommel horse and rings, courtesy of Nikita Nargornyy, and women's uneven bars through Seda Titkhalay.

A fourth Russian gold medal came in the men's high jump as Danil Lysenko cleared 2.20m to claim the win.
