The DOSB has launched a rebranded online tv channel called Sportdeutschland.TV ©DOSBThe German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is rebranding its online sports TV channel splink.tv and launching a new service called Sportdeutschland.TV, which will begin broadcasting with coverage of the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony tomorrow.


The DOSB claimed the new name is intended to reflect a wide variety of sports programming to cover more than 40 sports among its 98 member organisations which encompasses 91,000 clubs and almost 28 million members.

As well as broadcasting a wider range of sports the DOSB, promised that Sportdeutschland.TV will focus on the people and stories behind them, while live coverage will be complemented by a video-on-demand service.

"Sportdeutschland.TV takes the multiple demands for greater breadth and variety in sports reporting already found [in] more than 40 sports [to a new level]," said DOSB President Alfons Hörmann.

"Only last week the European Swimming Championships for people with disabilities was [shown] live

"Sportdeutschland.TV is also [for]a range of sports associations, tour operators and leagues to show their sports online, so we can all [experience] more sports first-hand."

Coverage from Nanjing is due to begin at 2.00pm CEST (Central European Summer Time) tomorrow.

From Sunday (August 17) the channel will provide 24-hour coverage from the Games that will include live broadcasts, background reports and interviews with athletes and team officials.

There will also be daily highlights programmes broadcast at 9am, 5pm and midnight CEST.

Germany will be represented by 84 athletes competing in 21 sports at the Games which take place until August 28.

Commenting on the new channel, chief executive of DOSB New Media, Oliver Beyer said: "There is one thing above all [and that is to] inspire sports fans with an exciting and varied programme [and] why we have designed the platform so that you can [watch] sports and events through filters and search functions [that are] targeted, but can also discover many new things.

"Anyone wanting to experience sporting highlights on the web is the right place for Sportdeutschland.TV ".
