The 4x4 used by John Barrowman during the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games is among the items currently being auctioned off by Glasgow 2014 ©Glasgow 2014Products used by sprinting superstar Usain Bolt will be among over 200,000 pieces of Glasgow 2014 memorabilia expected to fly off the shelves when they go on sale in Nottingham this week.


The equipment, transferred from Glasgow to Nottingham in more than 150 trucks, is being sold by Leftover Solutions, a company specialising in providing salvage solutions for sporting events.

Among items up for sale includes massage tables, umpire chairs, swimming chairs, reception desks, ice-boxes and a range of white-goods used in the various Athletes' Village and venues during the Games.

The company salvaged more than half a million items from Glasgow, of which more than 200,000 had been distributed to customers straight from the venue, with the remainder transferred to Nottingham due to its central location.

"We have an amazing array of bits and bobs from the Commonwealth Games on sale," said Leftover Solutions operations manager Paul Levin.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to get original equipment at a fraction of a cost.

"It has a fun-factor for the public because they might be using one of the very products that Usain Bolt, or any famous athlete, could have been using at the Games.

"I think it [the sales] will go mad as people become aware, but once the stuff is gone it is gone."

Levin added that the furniture would be perfect for families, landlords, schools, clubs or local churches looking to refurbish their property.

Trade at the Glasgow 2014 superstore meanwhile, and at another outlet in Glasgow Central railway station, is continuing ahead of the scheduled closure of shops on Wednesday (August 13).

Merchandise sales exceeded expectations, with as many as 50,000 Clyde mascots sold, along with 76,000 T-shirts, 30,000 pin badges and 17,000 key rings.

"The Glasgow 2014 superstore in George Square has been a phenomenal success and with final stocks still flying off the shelves, it will now close on Wednesday rather than the end of August as originally planned," said a Glasgow 2014 spokesman.

"All of our ranges are selling very well across the stores from our Team Scotland merchandise through to our Scottish specific items.

"It has been brilliant to see crowds of supporters sporting the Glasgow 2014 brand."

An online auction to sell off major memorabilia has also been set up by the Organising Committee. 

Among the items available is the 4x4 vehicle used by John Barrowman's at the Opening Ceremony, Usain Bolt's 4x400m relay baton, and a number of Closing Ceremony tents.
