Rio's landscapes helped form the design for the look of the Rio 2016 Games ©Rio 2016The "harmonious diversity of the Brazilian people" is the inspiration behind the multi-coloured look of the Rio 2016 Games, unveiled to mark two years to go until the Opening Ceremony.

Venues, parts of the city, tickets, uniforms, licensed products and more will all carry the design.

It has been created with "our lush nature and human warmth" in mind, resembling an embrace, and uses Rio de Janeiro's landscapes within its look.

"The Rio 2016 Games will be a Games for all, a memorable celebration only we know how to offer," said Beth Lula, brand director of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"The starting point for the look scenario was the Rio 2016 brands, the essence of passion and transformation, values and attributes."

Inspired by Brazil, Brazilians and Rio de Janeiro, the design is intended to reflect the diversity of the country, "captured by the imagination of every tourist".

"Rio transforms and engages because it is an awe-inspiring city, the crossing point of several 'cultural streams' that circulate throughout Brazil, mingle, are reinvented and flow out to the city to the world," the team behind the Rio 2016 look said.

It has been developed by the Organising Committee's design and management team over one year.

They created more than five "projects" before settling on a final look.

Aspects of Brazilian history and culture, as well as "photographic immersion in Rio landscapes", all helped to achieve the final design.

Icons have also been created for Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Brasília and Salvador, which will host football matches during the Olympic Games.

Alongside the launch of the Rio 2016 look, a revamped Games website has been unveiled.

It has a redesigned homepage as well as a new section on the host city, with a guide to attractions across the four Games zones.

Two infographics have also been added to the site, with information and trivia about the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

To mark the two-year-to-go milestone, hundreds of staff from Rio 2016 and the Olympic Municipal Company formed a giant number two in the Sambodrome, which will host archery and marathon events during the Olympic Games.

Organisers say 55 per cent of venues across the four competition zones are now ready, with the "operational preparation phase" now taking over from the "planning phase", according to RIo 2016 President Carlos Nuzman.

Yesterday, a draft calendar for the 45 test events that will be held ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games was released.

"We have intensified contacts with the international sports community in order to keep them continuously updated on the progress, in a joint effort with the International Olympic Committee," Nuzman added.
