The Ukrainian players celebrate a second successive European title in Maia ©CPISRAAn impressive performance by Ukraine in the final of the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) Football 7-a-Side European Championships saw them retain their crown against The Netherlands.

After only dropping one point in the group stages, Ukraine finished the competition undefeated after overcoming the Dutch 3-0 in the decider in Maia, Portugal.

The reigning champions took an early lead through their captain Volodymyr Antoniuk, before Yevhen Zinoviev doubled their advantage just past the quarter-hour mark.

The Netherlands tightened up at the back and consolidated, but were unable to breach the meanest defence in the competition which only conceded two goals all the way through.

Vitalii Romanchuk sealed the win minutes from full-time to ensure his side remain as continental champions following on from their success in Glasgow four years ago.

There was some consolation for The Netherlands' Iljas Visker, who finished the tournament as top scorer with eight goals, while compatriot Peter Kooij was second on the goal-scoring charts with seven.

Meanwhile, in the bronze medal match Paralympic and world champions Russia made up for their penalty shoot-out loss to Ukraine in the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Ireland.

The Russians were dominant throughout taking a fifth minute lead through Eduard Ramonov and never looking back.

Captain Alexander Kuligin doubled their lead just after halftime, before netting a third to put the game beyond reach eight minutes later, to secure the bronze.
