New York City will welcome the top seven men's and women's singles players, according to the International Federation rankings as of July 21.

The men's field is headed by Shingo Kunieda of Japan, who won the last of his four US Open titles in 2011.

Frenchman Stephane Houdet, the defending champion, will be ranked number two in the competition, ahead of Great Britain's Gordon Reid, Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina, Joachim Gerard of Belgium, Dutchman Maikel Scheffers and Japan's Tayuya Miki.

The wildcard has been handed to Michael Jeremiasz of France.

Action in the six wheelchair events - the men's and women's singles and doubles, and the quad singles and doubles - will begin on September 4 and run across four days.

The women's field is headed by Yui Kamiji of Japan, who is on a roll after reaching the final of the Australian Open and winning her first Grand Slam at Roland Garros in June.

The 20-year-old won the doubles titles at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year, meaning that she will be vying for the golden Grand Slam in doubles.

Aniek Van Koot of The Netherlands, the defending US Open champion, is ranked number two ahead of German Sabine Ellerbrock.

The rest of the top seven is completed by Jiske Griffioen of The Netherlands, Jordanne Whiley of Great Britain, and Dutchwomen Marjolein Buis and Sharon Walraven.

The wildcard has been handed to Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa.

The United States will be represented by three-time Paralympic quad doubles gold medallist David Wagner, who is ranked number one, and Nick Taylor, who has been handed a wild card.

Wagner will be looking to win his third US Open quad singles title and rebound from a year ago, when he lost to South Africa's Lucas Sithole, who is ranked second.

Andrew Lapthorne is ranked number three.

The total prize fund for the US Open wheelchair competition is $150,000 (£89,000/€111,000).
