The final at this year's World Wheelchair Basketball Championships will see the US take on Australia who came back from the brink against Turkey today ©Getty Images Defending champions Australia came back from the brink to set up a gold medal clash with the United States at the World Wheelchair Basketball Championships as they came from 20 points behind to edge pass Turkey in a dramatic semi-final.

The Aussies were expected to overcome their European opponents as they chase a second successive world title in Incheon, but what was not anticipated was that they would be pushed right to the wire by the Turks.

The European silver medallists were in inspired from during a stunning opening two quarters that saw them hold a scarcely believable 42-22 lead at halftime thanks in the main to the efforts of the free-scoring trio of Ismail Ar, Cem Gezinci and Ozgur Gurbulak.

The rattled Australians knew that they had to quickly shift the momentum of the match or they were staring down the barrel of a crushing defeat, and the comeback duly started in the third period as Justin Eveson and Shaun Norris helped to reduce the deficit to eight points going into the final quarter.

Eveson and Norris continued their scoring spree in a remarkable last 10 minutes as the Australians racked up an incredible 24 points to Turkey's 11 to emerge with a 63-58 win.

The men from Down Under now face a gold medal clash with the only side that have beaten them so far in the tournament.

The US came through their semi-final in more comfortable fashion against a determined Spain, emerging with a 56-49 win.

It was not all plain sailing for the Paralympic bronze medallists though, as Spain clawed back a 12-point deficit to trail by just a single point at halftime thanks to the scoring prowess of Alejandro Zarzuela.

Both sides registered 13 points apiece in the third quarter to set up a mouth-watering final period.

However, Spain began to wilt badly in the final 10 minutes, and inspired by Michael Paye and Brian Bell, the Americans outscored their opponents by six points to seal the win.

Prior to the semi-final action at the Samsan World Sports Complex, hosts South Korea could not manage to finish on a high as they lost out 63-57 to Italy in the fifth place playoff.

South Korea held a slender two-point lead after the opening period but Italy won the remaining three quarters helped by Matteo Cavagnini and Ahmed Raourahi, who scored 16 points and 10 points respectively.

Terry Bywater and Ian Sagar were the star men for Great Britain as they registered 25 and 20 points apiece in a 77-65 win over Iran to secure seventh place.

Turkey will take on Spain in the bronze medal match tomorrow before the big one sees the US lock horns with Australia for the World Championship title.
