Glasgow City Council will host the events in Scotland House at Glasgow's City Halls and Old Fruitmarket.

A Glasgow "BioCorridor" life sciences seminar and a session discussing the city's social enterprise sector are among 40 events scheduled to take place, which will feature a number of influential speakers from a wide range of sectors.

"Scotland House will provide a great meeting place for athletes, their families, the public and media, but it also has a key role to play in providing a conduit between our business community and a global audience," said Leader of Glasgow City Council, Councillor Gordon Matheson.

"It's crucial therefore, that with the eyes of the world on Glasgow, we ensure that our business community engages effectively with the Commonwealth Games, and that we demonstrate our major events capabilities.

"The Glasgow Business Embassy will be a fantastic asset to help attract inward investment to the city.

"It will connect local firms with key market territories and enable Glasgow's economy to benefit from the massive influx of business visitors and VIPs during the Games.

"Business relationships formed here can continue to develop and flourish far into the future.

"Glasgow's unique and varied products, services and technologies will be on display to demonstrate why Glasgow is one of the top cities in the world in which to do business."

As well as life sciences and social enterprise other sectors that will be covered include food and drink, textiles, low carbon industries, engineering, design and manufacturing, financial and business services, tourism and events, and higher and further education.

During the Glasgow Business Embassy, the city's Chamber of Commerce revealed it will deliver a programme of themed "warm-up" business breakfast sessions over the duration of the Games which run from July 23 to August 3.

These sessions will include topics such as "motivating your team", with speakers from the Scottish Football Association, the Glasgow Warriors rugby union club and the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives.

A group of three young Glasgow entrepreneurs will reveal the secrets of their success during a presentation, while international representation includes a group of businesses from Jamaica, who will present case studies showing how and why they successfully do business in Glasgow.

Commenting on the breakfast sessions, chief executive of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Stuart Patrick, said: "We are thrilled to play an active part in the Glasgow Business Embassy at Scotland House via our breakfast sessions.

"These will showcase some great news stories about our members in both private and third sectors, in tandem with the legacy themes of the Games.

"They will be a celebration of Glasgow, highlighting the best of our city."

The Glasgow Business Embassy is part of a range of services and events set to take place at Scotland House which opens on July 21, two days before the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Around 60 business-focused meetings and events will be held in addition to those taking place as part of the Glasgow Business Embassy, while the House will also host around 800 events as part of Culture and Festival 2014.
