A number of neighbours have given evidence during the trial that they heard a woman's screams on the night of February 14 last year.

Prosecution lawyers have said these screams were from Reeva Steenkamp, Pistorius' girlfriend.

But the six-time Paralympic champions defence team previously claimed it was his screams they heard after he shot her through a toilet door, thinking there was an intruder in his Pretoria home.

Giving evidence today, acoustic expert Ivan Lin said it would have been very difficult, given the neighbours' distance from Pistorius' home, to have clearly heard screaming.

But when he was asked by prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel if he would put the screams at 120 decibels - roughly as loud as a plane's engine - he said: "120 means extremely loud, you can almost hear it 100 metres away.

"It is a very slight possibility, but it is possible."

The court also heard from the athlete's manager, Peet van Zyl, who explained how the London 2012 Olympics - at which he competed in the 400 metres and 4x400m relay - catapulted him to a "global icon".

He said Pistorius was an "astute businessman" who could have increased his income by five or six times, and described his relationship with Steenkamp as "loving and caring".

She was shot dead by Pistorius six months after the Games.

Yesterday, the court heard the result of a psychiatric report, which ruled the 27-year-old athlete was not mentally ill when he shot Steenkamp dead.

He had spent a month being assessed at the Weskoppies hospital in Pretoria ahead of the ruling.

Pistorius denies deliberately killing the 29-year-old old model and law graduate.
