The temporary hotel company had been advertising accommodation for spectators at its "Glasgow Commonwealth Games Hotel" for the duration of the Games in July and August on the booking.com website.

Snoozebox is charging up to £250 ($425/€312) a night to stay at the temporary accommodation made from disused shipping containers situated on Dunn Street in the Dalmarnock area of Glasgow's East End.

Spectators for the Games are being offered an air-conditioned room with a double bed and a single bunk along with an en suite wet room shower with towels and toiletries in a location just "15 minutes away" from the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Celtic Park, where the Opening Ceremony will be held on July 23.

However, Glasgow 2014 stepped in and ordered the company to change its name claiming that it is in breach of strict rules regarding ambush marketing.

A Glasgow 2014 spokesman confirmed to insidethegames that following a request to the hotel company, the words "Commonwealth Games" have been dropped from the name, with the hotel now being advertised as the "Snoozebox Glasgow".

Organisers claim the hotel was in breach of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008 (Games Association Right) Order 2009 passed by the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood.

The legislation prevents firms who are not officially affiliated to the Games from using any advertising that indicates an association with the event.

"Brand protection regulations are normal practise for major events of this nature and form part of our commitment to the Commonwealth Games Federation that we would protect and enhance the integrity and reputation of the Games brand," the Glasgow 2014 spokesman added.

"We take this commitment very seriously."

Last year, ATP Event Experts were announced as the official Commonwealth Games travel office in charge of coordinating travel and accommodation markets for the Games which are expected to attract around one million visitors to Glasgow.

Snoozebox did not respond to requests for comment by insidethegames.
