The United States secured their third win in Toronto by hammering Peru 93-14 ©Wheelchair Basketball CanadaDefending champions the United States registered win number three on the third day of action at the Women's Wheelchair Basketball World Championships by inflicting another heavy defeat on Group A opponents Peru.

Hosts Canada, Paralympic champions Germany and London 2012 bronze medallists The Netherlands also maintained their 100 per cent starts to the tournament at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

After going down to heavy defeats to the Dutch and the Australians already, Peru suffered another thrashing at the hands of a rampant US side with Kimberly Champion, Rebecca Murray and Courtney Ryan starring in a 93-14 win.

The Americans sit top of Group A after three wins and will face a much sterner test tomorrow when they take on The Netherlands.

The Dutch came through their match with Mexico in relatively comfortable style despite being just 37-21 ahead at the break.

It was in the second half that The Netherlands' class shone through as they powered away from the Mexicans led by stand-out performances from Inge Huitzing and Mariska Beijer, who both scored 18 points.

Mexico's task does not get much easier tomorrow as they clash with Paralympic silver medal winners Australia, who recorded their second win of the tournament against France.

The French took a surprising 10-7 lead early on and only trailed by four points at halftime before continuing to provide the possibility of an upset with a 30-29 lead in the third quarter.

But Australian coach Tom Kyle utilised his bench well in the final period as the Aussies began to find their rhythm to eventually emerge with a 59-47 win.

The French will be buoyed by their performance going into tomorrow's meeting with Peru where they will be expecting to inflict more misery on the South Americans.

Janet McLachlan led the Canadian attack in style once again as she bagged her third double-double of the tournament by posting 27 points and 17 rebounds en route to a 76-53 victory for the hosts over China in Group B.

McLachlan was assisted by the impressive Cindy Ouellet who scored 20 points. while Katie Harnock also starred.

China overcame Asian rivals Japan yesterday and the Japanese suffered their third straight loss in Toronto as they went down 62-48 to Great Britain.

The British side took a 28-22 lead into the halftime break and it was in the third quarter that they made the decisive move by restricting their opponents to just eight points while winning 17 points of their own.

Despite taking the fourth quarter 18-17, Japan lost out to the British who registered their second win of the tournament.

Germany stretched their winning streak to three-from-three as they saw off the challenge of Brazil on a scoreline of 74-40.

The Paralympic champions never looked troubled throughout and were led by player of the game Mareike Adermann, who registered 29 points and 19 rebounds in an impressive display.

The Germans will now take on Canada in what is set to be a likely group decider tomorrow, while Brazil take on Japan and China play Great Britain.
