The Baton will visit every part of Glasgow as it travels through the host city in the three days immediately before the Opening Ceremony of the Games at Celtic Park, due on July 23.

Pupils from Alexandra Parade Primary School helped launch the ticket ballot opening and street by street route announcement of the Relay at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum today.

The pupils have taken part in a six- week project entitled "Message Unknown" with YDance to create their very own Queen's Baton Relay message.

A special Finish Line Celebration Event is set to take place at the end of each day with up to 8,000 people invited to join in the free-of-charge parties with come and try sports, arts and dance activities along with special entertainment including dance performances and a music programme that will be headlined by Salsa Celtica.

Along the routes there will be circus acts, live bands, drummers, street performers, dancers and choirs.

On July 20, the three-day Relay is due to begin at the People's Palace before passing by landmarks including the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow City Chambers, Glasgow Cathedral, Mitchell Library, Celtic Park and the Emirates Arena, as well as communities across the north and east of the city before the Finish Line party at Springburn Park.

The following day, the Baton will visit the West End, taking in venues such as the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre and the SSE Hydro, the Finnieston Crane, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, University of Glasgow, the Botanic Gardens and Maryhill Burgh Halls ending with the second party at Victoria Park.

On the final day of the Relay, the Baton will travel to the south side, visiting landmarks including Hampden Park, Tramway, House for an Art Lover, the Citizens Theatre and the Burrell Collection culminating in the final Finish Line Celebration Event at the Queen's Park Recreation Ground.

"The Queen's Baton has been passed by tens of thousands of citizens across the Commonwealth and the last leg of its journey through Scotland is a great opportunity for everyone to be part of the biggest sporting and cultural event in the country's history," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.

"The arrival of the Queen's Baton back into Glasgow will be a special moment indeed and we are all looking forward to savouring the incredible atmosphere around this great city as the baton makes its journey to the Opening Ceremony on July 23."

The Glasgow leg of the Queen's Baton Relay will represent the final journey of a global trek across the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth since its launch at Buckingham Palace last October.

The Baton will have travelled 198,000 kilometres in 288 days before entering Celtic Park.

It is currently making its way through England before beginning a 40-day journey through Scotland beginning in Edinburgh on June 14.

The ballot to apply for tickets for the three Finish Line parties is now open and closes on Sunday June 22.
