Six who have expressed an interesting in bidding to organise the two events in either 2018 or 2020 have taken part in an information meeting in Lausanne on the bidding procedure for these two events.

Of the six bidders, four have put forward cities. 

These are Astana in Kazakhstan, Copenhagen in Denmark, Hangzhou in China and Tokyo in Japan.

The other two bidders, Russia and United Arab Emirates, still have to choose cities. 

The potential bidders were briefed on the benefit, economic impact and legacy generated with the organisation of the Championships and Convention, due to be staged in the first two weeks in December 2018 and 2020.

Other potential organisers that could not be present in Lausanne included Lima in Peru, Valencia in Spain and New Zealand, who have not announced a city.

"We want these events to be an unforgettable experience for you, which will both enhance the image of Aquatics, but also raise the profile of your city," said Cornel Marculescu, FINA's executive director.

"The joint organisation of the Championships and of the Convention is certainly complex and challenging, but the overall impact and added value they provide is well worth the effort", added Marculescu.

The meeting in Lausanne was also attended by a number of FINA's partners and suppliers, including marketing agent Dentsu, Myrtha Pool, Omega, and Nüssli.

Potential bidders now have until September 4 to submit their formal bids to host the two events with a decision being due to be made on December 2 after the presentation of each to the FINA ruling Bureau.

The next edition of the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships and FINA World Aquatics Convention is due to take place in Doha from November 29 to December 1, 2014, with the following edition set for Windsor, Canada, in 2016.
