Technogym will work with Glasgow Life to install its fitness equipment in the fitness centres in the Athletes Village.

It will be accessible to all of the expected 6,500 athletes and team officials from 71 competing nations and territories at the Games, which are due to take place from July 23 to August 3.

"It is vital for our competing athletes to have access to the highest quality training equipment within the fitness centres at the Village," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.

"We are delighted to have the experience of Technogym as part of the set-up to galvanise and support the participating teams as they aspire to new achievements this year."

Based in Cesena, Italy, Technogym has 30 years of experience in supplying gym equipment across a range of sports and has been the official supplier at five Olympic Games to date, including Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Turin 2006, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Its equipment is currently being used by the likes of the English Football Association at its National Football Centre in St Georges Park and the McLaren Formula One team at its technology centre in Woking.

In November 2012, former United States President Bill Clinton and former Italian President Giorgio Napolitano officially opened the company's new headquarters in Cesena, known as the Technogym Village, boasting what, it is claimed, is the the world's first Wellness Campus featuring a research and innovation laboratory dedicated to physical exercise and education.

Earlier this year Techno gym donated around £200,000 (£334,000/€243,000) of equipment from the official London 2012 Athletes' Village to the Wigan Youth Zone facility, in an effort to inspire more youngsters to get active by using the same equipment used by the likes of Olympic champions Usain Bolt and Jessica Ennis.
