The World Series leaders extended their advantage at the top of the table with an exhilarating 54-7 win over the Canadians playing in their first ever International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens Cup final.

In claiming a fourth title on the 2013-2014 HSBC Sevens World Series - and a 50th IRB Sevens Cup title in 15 years - New Zealand moved 19 points clear of second-placed South Africa in the standings.

After recording three impressive wins on the first day of action in Scotstoun Stadium, hosts Scotland made it through to their first semi-final encounter since 2009 before succumbing to back-to-back defeats at the hands of Canada and Fiji to seal a fourth place finish.

Despite losing to Fiji in the Cup quarter-finals, England, who will host the final leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series next weekend, recovered well to beat Kenya 26-5 in the Plate final.

France recorded three wins on the second and final day of Action in Glasgow, including a 20-14 victory over Argentina in the Bowl final, to ensure they returned home with a piece of silverware and an all-important eight World Series points.

In the shield, Wales overcame a resilient Japanese team to storm to a 29-7 victory and claim the last remaining crown of the tournament.

Action is due to resume in the World Series on May 10 as the teams make their way to Twickenham for the Marriott London Sevens and a last opportunity to impress in this seasons competition.
