Courtesy of a donation from Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), prime sites at both airports will be used to showcase vibrant, fun and inspiring images from around the Commonwealth, according to Glasgow 2014 organisers.

The campaign will see jetties and main corridors at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports adorned with images, branding and a Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games welcome message for the thousands of athletes, team officials and spectators arriving for the event.

Under the agreement, RBS has provided the use of 14 internal jetties, nine external jetties and one banner advert in the car park at Glasgow Airport while 10 internal jetties and four external jetties will be used at Edinburgh Airport.

A 14 metre high billboard will also be erected at both airports which will include imagery from the journey of the Queen's Baton Relay which is currently in Canada.

"Our airports are the first opportunity visitors have to get an impression of what Scotland is like and we really want them to know how excited we are to be hosting the Commonwealth Games this year," said Scotland's Minister for External Affairs and International Development, Humza Yousaf.

"I hope that everyone, from the teams coming here to compete to visitors coming on holiday, will feel inspired by the vibrant images they see and really want to be part of all that is going on in Scotland this year."

Work is already underway at Glasgow Airport in preparation for the Games with a £17 million ($29 million/€21 million) investment programme announced last year which will see large parts of the main terminal building undergo a major makeover.

"The airports will be the first place many of our athletes, officials and supporters will see when they arrive in the country for the Games and what a great impression they will get," commented Glasgow 2014 chief executive, David Grevemberg, who was joined at the announcement by managing director of Glasgow Airport, Amanda McMillan and Glasgow-based Bollywood dance group, the Desi Bravehearts.

"To be greeted by these vibrant images and messages will create excitement for what is in store.

"Already we have heard from ticket agents in New Zealand that Games tickets and travel packages are up 800 per cent on those from Delhi 2010 so we know that there is a huge appetite for the Games from around the globe and we want to ensure visitors get the warm Scottish welcome that the country is renowned for."

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games take place from July 23 to August 3.
