The FIG has reprimanded a number of officials for “erroneous judging” at Gymnastics World Championships ©FIGApril 11 - A number of officials have been reprimanded for erroneous judging or favouring certain gymnasts or countries at last year's World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships and World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, it was revealed today.

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) announced that following a "comprehensive analysis and review" of the judging at the rhythmic and artistic events in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv in August and the Belgian city of Antwerp in October, respectively, seven rhythmic gymnastics judges have been formally warned, while one other received a nine-month ban from judging at FIG events.

In artistic gymnastics, one men's judge was hit with a nine-month ban, while another received a 12-month ban, while flaws in the women's competition saw three warnings issued, as well as two nine-month bans.

The body did say, however, that a number of judges received letters of commendation.

No names or nationalities have been revealed as yet.

"We are happy to inform you that the overwhelming majority of judges worked correctly and did a very good job, and that the above-mentioned cases are exceptions," said Bruno Grandi, President of the FIG.

"Our Technical Committees spend a great deal of time and energy analysing judges' scores to ensure that every athlete is assured a fair and unbiased score when they compete, now and in the future."

The FIG added all the judges have the option to appeal the decisions within 21 days to the Appeals Tribunal.
