"As AIBA President and on behalf of the entire boxing community, I am extremely happy that we have now set another milestone in the development of our beloved sport," C K Wu, President of AIBA and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, said.

"APB aims at bringing boxing back to a mainstream position in the world of sports by taking into account the needs of its fans.

"As of October 2014, only the very best boxers on the planet will compete against each other in a merit based and comprehensive ranking system, with transparent and fair judging.

"APB is an absolute revolution and it will soon crown the only undisputable World Champions."

The dates differ from those revealed by AIBA in January, which would have seen the APB pre-ranking tournament taking place in June and July before a champion's tournament from August to December.

The new schedule will now mean the pre-ranking competitions are due to be staged in late October and November, followed by ranking tournaments in December and then the champion title matches on January 22-25, 2015 and January 29 to February 1.

AIBA said it arrived at the new schedule after talks with Executive Committee members, APB Executive Board members and national federations, and said further competition details will be released nearer the time.
