The 5th World Para-taekwondo Championships will be held in Moscow in June, it has been announced ©WTFMarch 20 - Moscow will host the 5th World Para-Taekwondo Championships, an event that will have extra significance because it will be the main opportunity to showcase the sport as it bids to join the Paralympic programme for Tokyo 2020.

The event in the Russian capital, due to take place on June 21 and 22, will also include an international Para-taekwondo symposium for the first time, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) announced.

Taekwondo is challenging badminton to be added to the Tokyo 2020 after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) earlier this month short listed both sports during a meeting of its Governing Board on the eve of Sochi 2014.

A decision on which sport will be added to the programme is due to be made by the IPC Governing Board at its meeting in Bonn in October.

Observers from the IPC are expected to be present during the event in Moscow.

Only kyorugi is being considered for Tokyo 2020 but the World Championships will also feature poomsae.

Last year's Championships were held in Lausanne.

The WTF also decided to hold the 1st World Deaf-Taekwondo Championships in Salt Lake City on November 15 and 16 later this year.

The World Deaf Championships will also feature both kyorugi and poomsae.
