This came on the seventh day of the trial in Pretoria in which the six time Paralympic champion accused of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp after he shot her three times through a bathroom door on Valentine's Day last year.

The 27-year-old, who also competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games, claims he shot her inadvertently after mistaking her for an intruder in their Pretoria home.

Fresco confirmed the evidence provided to the court last week that Pistorius accidentally fired a gun in a restaurant but made him take the blame to defuse attention.

He also said that, on another occasion, he had been driving when Pistorius fired a gun out of a sunroof after police stopped him for speeding, adding that Pistorius had become became angry after a police officer handled his weapon.

On day seven, it was also explained by pathologist Gert Saayman that Steenkamp had been shot three times, in the head, hip and arm, but that he did not know the order of the injuries.

If she had been shot in the hip or arm first, screaming would have been expected, he added, and this fits with the evidence of neighbours earlier in the trial who said they heard a woman screaming before the shots were fired.

But in comparison to yesterday, when Saayman's graphic description of Steenkamp's death caused Pistorius to vomit and show signs of distress, the defendant was much more composed and there was no need for the trial to be halted.
