USA Gymnastics have announced that their premier events will be covered on NBC and Universal Sports until 2016 ©USA GymnasticsMarch 3 - Broadcasting networks NBC Sports and Universal Sports will continue to televise gymnastics events to viewers in the United States until 2016, it has been revealed.


NBC Sports, which began an exclusive partnership with USA Gymnastics in 1997 after first televising the sport in the 1980s, will continue to cover the AT&T American Cup and the P&G Championships.

They will also show October's World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanjing, China, as well as the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships.

Universal Sports Network, meanwhile, will continue covering the Nastia Liukin Cup, which was broadcast last Friday (February 28) along with a web simulcast, and also provide expanded coverage of the World Championships on both cable and online platforms.

"USA Gymnastics began its road to Rio on March 1 with the NBC broadcast of the AT&T American Cup," said the President of USA Gymnastics Steve Penny.

"Through our collaborative partnership with NBC Sports Group and Universal Sports Network, our fans enjoy following gymnastics on broadcast and cable television and the web, and are able to follow the sport unlike ever before.

"We look forward to maximising the opportunities this partnership provides through to the 2016 Olympic Games."

Similar enthusiasm was conveyed by figures from both broadcasting networks. 

Jon Miller, President of programming for NBC and NBC Sports described how, after "a tremendous quarter century with USA Gymnastics, they are excited to build on this partnership". 

Universal Sports Network President Scott Brown emphasised how they are "proud to showcase USA Gymnastics events to our audience and help to fuel the sport's tremendous growth".
