The win marks the fourth time the American women's team has picked up the title and will give them a huge confidence boost as they make their way to the 2014 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, due to be held in Canada in August.

The US opened the scoring after just nine minutes when right-back Andi Sullivan scored directly from a corner.

Her swinging cross was flapped at by Mexican keeper Cecilia Santiago who could only push the ball into the inside of her right post.

The goal marked the second of the tournament for Sullivan and proved to be one of few chances in the opening 45 minutes.

The US picked up the pace in the second half, dominating possession and limiting Mexico to hopeful long-balls.

Their patience paid off in the 59th minute when Stephanie Amack's one-touch pass rolled perfectly to the feet of in-form Savannah Jordan who fired low and hard past the outstretched Santiago.

It was Jordan's fifth goal in as many games and secured her place as second top goalscorer for the American team throughout the competition.

Things went from bad to worse for the Mexicans just six minutes later after some brilliant build-up play down the left led to a bullet header by forward Margaret "Midge" Purce and a comfortable margin for the US.

The move started when playmaker Rose Lavelle, who was consequently named "Golden Ball" as the tournament's most valuable player, picked up a loose ball in the middle of the park and drove towards the Mexican defence.

She then fed Summer Green on the left flank who played a perfectly weighted ball onto the head of Purce who crashed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Mexico had the chance to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game and end America's tournament clean sheet however, Briana Campos could only stand and watch as her penalty hit the inside of the post before being swatted away by the scrambling Katelyn Rowland.

The American women added insult to injury in the third minute of stoppage time when Estefania Fuentes deflected a Mallory Weber cross past her own keeper to seal an inevitable win for the US side.

The Championships marked the first time the US has gone the entire event without conceding a goal.

The American women swept the board in terms of awards following the competition's end with Lavelle picking up the Golden Ball Award; Rowland won the Golden Glove as the tournament's top goalkeeper; and McKenzie Meehan claimed a share of the Golden Boot for top goalscorer with Mexico's Tanya Samarzich, both with six goals.

The US also earned the Fair Play Award.
