January 3 - Lolo Jones has another chance to impress US selectors ahead of Sochi 2014 ©Getty Images Two-time world indoor hurdles champion Lolo Jones and Olympic sprint silver medallist Lauryn Williams have been named in the United States bobsled team for this weekend's World Cup event in Winterberg, Germany, as the final selection cut for Sochi 2014 gets closer.

With the qualifying period for Sochi due to end after the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup meeting in Igls, Austria on January 19, this weekend's event represents a huge opportunity for both athletes to impress US bobsled team selectors who will announce the final squad later in January.

Jones, who came agonisingly close to an Olympic medal at Beijing 2008 only to trip on the second-to-last hurdle in the 100 metres final and finished fourth in the same event at London 2012, was named in the US bobsled team in October 2012 after impressing in a number of trial events.

The 31-year-old will be in the lead US sled in Winterberg pushing for driver and Vancouver 2010 bronze medallist Elana Meyers for the first time.

Last month Jones finished second with Jamie Greubel at the World Cup meeting in Utah but did not compete in the following week's event at Lake Placid.

Athens 2004 100m sprint silver medallist Williams, who was also part of the US women's 4x100m relay team that took gold at London 2012, is in the third US bobsled and will push for Jazmine Fenlator.

The 30-year-old retired from sprinting earlier this year and was encouraged to give bobsled a try by teammate Jones.

Since then, she has made steady progress and put in an impressive performance at the Bobsled US National Push Championships held in Calgary, Canada, finishing ahead of Jones in third place.

Aja Jones, who along with Katie Beetling are widely tipped to be the top two push athletes for the US at Sochi 2014, will partner Greubel in the second bobsled this weekend.

Jones and Williams look set to battle it out for the third push spot for Sochi with Emily Azevedo, who along with Beetling is sitting it out in Winterberg as the US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation says it is trying out different pairings in order to find the most effective combinations.

Next weekend, both Jones and Williams will be hoping for another chance to impress as the World Cup season moves to St Moritz in Switzerland before the Igls meeting the week after.
