Pikus-Pace initially finished first at the season opener in Calagary before being controversially disqualified after a piece of tape was found wrapped around the handle of her sled.

She was the last to start her first run in Park City this time around, but soon sped past her rivals to set track records in each of her runs, before eventually finishing 0.68sec clear of Britain's Lizzie Yarnold.

It was Yarnold who profited from the American's elimination last week to win gold but the Briton had to be content with second place this time around, with Canada's 2013 World Championship bronze medalist Sarah Reid third.

Yarnold continues to lead the overall standings after two races ahead of of Russia's Elena Nikitina and Australia's Michelle Steele, who finished sixth and fifth respectively in Park City.

Pikus-Pace may still have work to do down in 16th place overall but was delighted with her record breaking run on what could be her last ever competition on her home track.

"It was incredible," she said.

"Obviously, this is the fastest ice I've ever been on here.

"I've been chasing this record for 15 years and now to lay it down on what could most likely be my last competitive race on this track is really special."

In the men's race Russia's world champion Alexander Tretyakov, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic bronze, who took victory to claim his first World Cup win in three years and get one over on his Latvian rival Martins Dukurs.

Remarkably, this was the first time since November 2012 that Dukors has not won a World Cup race, and he finished just an agonising 0.12 behind after two runs had been completed. .

There was more for the home crowd to cheer when the United States' Matt Antoine took third place after finishing a further 0.14 behind.

Tretyakov joins Dukurs at the top of the overall rankings with 435 points apiece, while Antoine moves into third place 67 points behind.

The next round of the eight race World Cup series is due to take place next Friday (December 13) at Lake Placid.
