National Olympic Committee of Zambia ©NOCZDecember 2 - National Olympic Committee of Zambia President Miriam Moyo is to face a challenge at the annual general meeting in Ndola on Saturday (December 7) when Josab Changa will stand against her.

Changa, marketing and communications manager of the Zambia Handball Federation, will be seeking to unseat 64-year-old Moyo, an accountant who has held the post since 2005.

He is campaigning on introducing a system that will help Zambia compete more effectively at an international level.

The country has not won a medal in the Olympics since Samuel Matete claimed a silver medal in the 400 metres at Atlanta 1996.

Zambia has also failed to win a medal at the last two Commonwealth Games.

Their last medallist was boxer Kennedy Kanyanta, winner of the flyweight title at Manchester 2002.

"There is need to ensure that sports bodies work hand in hand with NOC (National Olympic Committee) in the interest of improving our level of athletes," said Changa.

"Zambia has the potential to reap medals but with proper training of our athletes, the dream winning medals can be realised."

Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) President Elias Mpondela is challenging Gabriel Muyinda for the vice-president's role and general secretary Hazel Kennedy is being opposed by Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) President Shapa Wakunguma.

Kennedy claimed that voters should retain faith in the current regime.

"I think people should look at the path we have laid and judge for themselves, we have performed exceptionally well and we hope to continue with our vision," said Kennedy, President of the Zambia Hockey Association.
