Coming from behind twice, the British side managed to force the game into extra time and, with no more goals to show, the match went to penalties.

In the searing 35 degree heat, goalkeeper Giles Moore pulled out two spectacular saves to earn his side a 4-2 win and seal their place in the final.

The final saw Britain up against a tough Rio de Janeiro side that was to prove another tight encounter for the visiting team.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in normal time, it took two extra time goals from Ollie Nugent to seal the win and secure the gold medal for Britain.

The boccia courts saw an all British affair in both the BS3 and BS4 classifications.

The BS4 gold medal match pitted Kieran Steer against compatriot and friend Jamie McCowan - a repeat from a fixture earlier in the week which McCowan won.

Steer, looking to reverse the fortunes of the previous encounter, started brightly and lead 6-0 after two ends.

The young Scot was then able to hold onto his advantage and eventually took the gold medal, winning 9-3.

Jacob Thomas and Patrick Wilson had dominated the BS3 classification coming into the final and now had just the other to beat in order to earn the elusive gold medal.

It was Thomas who took the victory with his additional experience leading him to a 5-1 win in what proved to be a very close encounter.

Britain's swimmers finished off a superb week in the pool, picking up two more gold's to total 18 overall in the competition.

The final day saw Amy Marren add to her collection with gold in the S9 100 metres individual medley, finishing in an impressive time of 1min 11sec.

Hannah Russell topped off a great week by winning the S12 200m individual medley in 2:30.41 to record Britain's 18th gold medal and 20th overall for the competition.

The final medal table for the Paralimpiadas Escolares saw Great Britain finish in tenth with 21 gold medals, three silver and one bronze, no mean feat given that the team only competed in four of the 10 sports available.
