The ABAE Senior Elite Championships may be boxed under new AIBA rules with potential update of Articles Of Association ©ABAENovember 6 - This season's Amateur Boxing Association of England's (ABAE) Senior Elite Championships are set to be held under international rules for the first time following the pending adoption of International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) rules.


With the ABAE's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) fast approaching, boxers at this season's Elite Championships could find themselves boxing under new international rules, should the vote to update the Articles of Association pass, according to a statement on the ABAE website.

If passed, the updated Articles of Association will introduce all AIBA statues, bylaws and technical rules meaning the Championships would be competed following these new rules.

As a result, boxers will be competing at international weight categories under the international 10:9 scoring system.

Boxers will also compete without head guards.

In order for boxers and coaches to be sufficiently prepared for these new rules, and to ensure safety at the Championships, the ABAE has said that the dates of the competition will be changed to later in the season.

Therefore, the Finals of the competition are provisionally planned to be help in mid-April 2014, with the programme for the earlier stages of being announced in December 2013.

The ABAE is also hoping to hold the national stages of the contest in an arena setting, with an international tournament format being implemented.
