International Powerman Association will host the European Duathlon Championships again this year after continuing their partnership with the ETUNovember 8 - A continuation of the partnership between the European Triathlon Union (ETU) and the International Powerman Association (IPA) has been announced, meaning that they will host the 2014 European Duathlon Championships.

As in 2012 and 2013, Powerman Holland, in Horst aan de Maas, will host the European Long Distance Duathlon Championships and the European Short Distance Duathlon Championships on April 12 and 13.

This year, in addition to these two events, Powerman and the ETU have agreed to organise the Olympic Distance European Duathlon Championships.

This event will take place alongside the Powerman Austria event in Weyer on the weekend of August 23 and 24, 2014, and will also see a Junior European Championship and a mixed duathlon relay - two men and two women - for elite, under-23 and junior athletes.

ETU President, Renato Bertrandi, is delighted an agreement has been reached which will see the popular event return to the calendar.

"It is with great pleasure that we have found an agreement with IPA to organise our European Duathlon Championships," said Bertrandi.

"Last year we had a successful Championships in Horst and this year, due to the success of the 2013 edition, we will once again meet in Horst for the long and sprint distance European Duathlon Championships."

"In addition, we will have the Olympic Distance European Championships, always in partnership with Powerman.

"I am confident that together we will deliver two exciting and successful weekends of duathlon."

The European Long Distance Duathlon Championships sees athletes complete a 15 kilometre run followed by 60km on the bike and finally another 7.5km run.

The European Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships is a 5km run then a 20km bike and a final 2.5km run.

The standard Olympic distance Duathlon, which is being introduced this year in the European Championships, sees athletes complete a 10km run, a 40km bike ride and another 10km run.

Last year's European Duathlon Championships saw a record number of athletes compete across all the events and President of Powerman Holland, John Raadschelders, believes the continuation of this event will bring more people to participate in duathlons across the world.

"In 2012 we started the joint European Duathlon Championships for long distance and sprint distance," he said.

"The feedback from athletes and National Federations has been very positive and has encouraged the ETU and Powerman to do more together.

"The results prove that we really boost duathlon in a positive way and we look forward to welcoming you in 2014."
