November 4 - Australian kayaker Nathan Baggaley has denied all charges in court after being arrested in a drugs investigation by Australian Federal PoliceAustralian Olympic silver medallist Nathan Baggaley today pleaded not guilty to drugs charges in court in Lismore, New South Wales after he was arrested last week on drugs charges.

The Athens 2004 double silver medallist was arrested along with two other men, one aged 52 and the other 32, after Australian Federal Police alleged all three men were involved in a syndicate producing and manufacturing amphetamine drugs.

Baggaley pleaded not guilty to all six charges he is facing, including the importation of a commercial amount of drugs and the manufacture and supply of a "large quantity" of a prohibited drug, the maximum penalty for which is life imprisonment.

The three-time world champion was convicted of manufacturing and dealing ecstasy in 2009 and served two years of a four-year prison sentence before being released in 2011, and this latest drugs scandal is sure to further damage the reputation of the 37-year-old former Australian Athlete of the Year.

In an interview in August to mark International Overdose Awareness Day, Baggaley spoke out about his drug addiction but claimed he was now "clean".

"I've made some poor choices and paid the price," he said.

"I'm just happy to come home and try to get on with my life."

Baggaley's heavily-pregnant partner Emeree Roberts, along with his mother and father, were present in Lismore Local Court, where he did not apply for bail but was refused it anyway and remanded in custody until December 17.
