Sergey Bubka receives his award from fellow IOC member Sir Craig Reedie to highlight the ISEM AwardsNovember 6 - Ukraine's pole vault legend and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Sergey Bubka provided the highlight of the International Sports Event Management (ISEM) Awards here when he was awarded the "outstanding individual contribution."


Bubka was one of many recipients at the event which concluded the two-day Sport Events Management Conference, with other winners including London and Partners, British Athletics and Kazan 2013. 

Bubka, the former world and Olympic champion, who is still the world record holder, was praised for the breadth of his involvement in the Olympic Movement despite his unsuccessful campaign earlier this year to become new IOC President

This includes being a member of the IOC rulig Executive Board, vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and President of the Ukranian Olympic Committee.

In these roles he has been involved in various events, including the 2013 World Athletics Championships, while he is set for a major role in Lviv's bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, announced yesterday.

It was fitting Bubka received his award from Sir Craig Reedie, vice-president of the IOC, who was a member of the judging panel for the awards.

Elsewhere, it was a productive evening for British entrants.

After a year of top-class events which has included the RideLondon Cycling Grand Prix and the the World Triathlon Series Grand Final, London and Partners were awarded the Sport City award on behalf of London.

Ian Edmondson, London and Partners' head of events, was present to pick up the award in which Dubai and Auckland finished in second and third places.

Despite being only tacitly acknowledged with a commendable mention in the city award, Kazan was well received elsewhere.

The Executive Committee of Kazan 2013 were awarded Most Innovative Event while Lorien won Best Look for its work on the Games.

Sportsworld were awarded Best Hospitality for their work at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, while Outstanding Team Contribution was awarded to British Athletics.

Other award winners were Design Work for the Best Use of Technology, GMR Marketing for Best Use of Sponsorship, Dubai Duty Free for Event Marketing and Neptunus Limited for Event Overlay and Facilities.
