October 9 - Granada in Spain is set to host the 2015 Winter UniversiadeGranada 2015 has launched its design competition for the official mascot of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter Universiade taking place in the Spanish city in two years' time.

The competition is open to all ahead of the December 20, 2013 deadline, with the winning design due to be announced in February 2014, a year before the Universiade gets underway.

As one of the most important identifying elements of the Games, Granada 2015 sees the mascot as a key component of its communication strategy, and is encouraging the local community and surrounding Andalusian region to get involved and engage in the campaign.

The jury that will choose the winning entry will be chaired by the 2015 Winter Universiade President and will include the Universiade manager, a representative of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada, a professor of the Department of Drawing of the University of Granada and a representative of the communications department of Granada 2015, among others.


Granada is situated near to the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort and the Puerto de la Ragua Cross-Country Ski Resort, which will host a number of events during the 27th Winter Universiade, which take place from February 4 to 14 in 2015.

In 1996 the ski resort of Sierra Nevada organised the World Alpine Skiing Championships, and it has also hosted European and World Cup trials for alpine skiing, snowboarding and freestyle.
