October 6 - Gordon Reid claimed the biggest win of his singles career in France this weekendGordon Reid secured the first International Tennis Federation (ITF) 1 Series singles title of his career after defeating Frenchman and world number two Stephane Houdet in the final of the Open de la Baie de Somme in Rue, France.

The Scot's 2-1 victory over London 2012 silver medallist Houdet in the final completed a remarkable run of form which saw him secure a straight sets victory over world number three Maikel Scheffers of the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

That was followed by superb semi-final performance against double Paralympic champion and world number one Shingo Kunieda of Japan, which saw Reid emerge with a 2-1 victory.

Despite going a set down to the six-time Grand Slam winner in the final, 22-year-old Reid reeled off two 6-3, 6-3 sets to bag the biggest singles title of his career so far and cement his place as one of the rising stars of the men's game.

That win also saw the world number six complete the double in Rue, after he and his vanquished opponent Houdet had secured the doubles crown with a 2-1 win over Kunieda and Belgian Joachim Gerard, to secure the pair's second doubles success of the season.

The pair are due to team-up again at next month's ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters in Mission Viejo, California, where Reid will also be one of four Britons on the Tennis Foundation's Wheelchair Tennis Performance Programme to contest the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters.

"It has been an amazing week for me," said the man from Helensburgh.

"After winning both titles and taking out the top three ranked players in the world, I feel great.

"I have been working very hard in training recently on a few specific areas and to see those parts of my game having such a positive impact at this tournament is really encouraging.

"I'm really pleased with the fight I showed to come through two tough three set matches and delighted to have won the doubles with Stephane to keep our unbeaten record intact."

Before the event in Mission Viejo, Reid and some of the other top players in the world are due to take part in the final ITF 1 Series tournament of the year, the Nottingham Indoors which runs from October 23 to 27 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
