Australian Institute of Sport looks ahead to 2016 Paralympic Games.October 3 - Young swimmers in Australia have been given the opportunity to hone their skills in a "Road to Rio" development camp in preparation for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

The 23 Paralympic hopefuls, selected on their potential to swim for Australia at Rio 2016, will be put through their paces at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.

The camp will see the youngsters partake in testing and analysis under the watchful eye of head coach Peter Freney, in a bid to bolster Australia's hold on Paralympic swimming's number one spot.

Paralympic Performance Manager at Swimming Australia Adam Pine claimed the various skills and techniques learnt at camps like this will assist in their development and enable the swimmers to transition smoothly to the elite level.

"Camps like this are a great opportunity for swimmers to come into an elite environment and learn to live and train like professional athletes," he said.

"The young swimmers are given access to state of the art facilities and the data and analysis gained through testing is a valuable tool in their individual development and the future success of the Australian Paralympic taam."

Amongst those hoping to break into the 2016 Rio Paralympic team is multiple medallist from
the 2013 Georgina Hope Swimmers Foundation Australian Age Multi-Class Championships,Kate Wilson.

Wilson also impressed at the Australian Swimming Championships this year, taking a Silver medal in the 50 metres multi-class breaststroke behind Paralympian Amanda Fowler.

The 15-year-old New South Wales born swimmer hopes that the development camp in Canberra will help her make a successful transition from national to international level.
