Both nations' capital cities, Copenhagen and Riga, will once again be in the running to host matches at the World Championships after losing out to another joint bid from Paris and Cologne for the preceding year's event.

World-ranked number 12's Denmark are the highest ranked nation to have never hosted the World Championships, and have proposed the under-construction 12,000-seat Copenhagen Arena as the centrepiece of their bid for the 2018 World Championships.

The 12,500-seat Boxen Arena in Herning is proposed as the secondary arena in the Danish Ice Hockey Association's bid, though they have not ruled out opening the tournament out to neighbours Sweden, in the city of Malmö, or to the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

Riga last hosted the IIHF World Championships in 2006, when Sweden took the world title ahead of the Czech Republic





Latvia, ranked one place higher in the world than Denmark in 11th place, last hosted the World Championships in 2006, and the arena built for this event in the country's capital, the 10,600-seat Riga Arena, would likely serve as a primary venue along with another venue in the same city.

Both nations have until January 10 next year to decide upon their secondary venue, and the decision on which nation will host the 2018 World Championships will be made at the 2014 IIHF Annual Congress in Belarusian capital Minsk from May 22-24 next year.
