Glasgow 2014 mascot Clyde celebrates his first birthday todaySeptember 19 - Glasgow 2014 mascot Clyde has celebrated his first birthday today following a busy year of spreading the word of the Commonwealth Games across Scotland.

Clyde has met more than 600,000 Scots and has also figures such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams and bronze medal winning diver Tom Daley along the way.

The cheeky thistle has also travelled down the river after which he was named after by speedboat as the Queen's Baton was unveiled.

His most recent adventure has seen him travel to 20 primary schools across Scotland with former Scottish Commonwealth athletes David Carry and Susan Egelstaff to promote healthy living and spread the excitement ahead of next year's Games.

"Clyde has had an incredible first year as Official Games Mascot," Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said.

"Young people have played such an important role in the Games so far and Beth's [the 12-year-old who created the mascot] design truly sums up what we want these Games to be - friendly, fun, engaging and accessible.

"I can think of nobody better than the cheeky and charming personality of Clyde to continue to build excitement for the Games around Scotland as next summer draws nearer."
