The tournament, which is due take place at the Almouj Golf resort, The Wave, Muscat from October 24 until 27, will see a European Challenge Tour Event being staged in one of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) - for the first time.

The city of Dubai in the UAE already plays host to two tournaments on the main European Tour, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the season ending event DP World Tour Championship along with the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, which forms part of the Ladies European Tour (LET).

As well as Dubai, Abu Dhabi hosts the HSBC Golf Championship while the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters takes place in Doha.

Organisers are hoping that the tournament, which will be played over the Almouj Golf course designed by two-time Open Championship winner Greg Norman of Australia, will provide a platform for Omani businesses to promote their activities to the global corporate community and in turn boost the local economy.

"The National Bank of Oman Golf Classic will have a positive effect on local talent and will greatly help the development of ambitious young Omani golfers, placing Oman on the world map of international sports," said Mulham Al Jarf, deputy chief executive of Oman Oil Company, which is owned by the Government of Oman.

"The impact that this exceptional world-class event will have on the young generation, and the fact that it will involve all aspects of the community, makes us delighted to be involved".
