On another great night for Jamaican sprinting, their fellow countryman Warren Weir secured the overall Diamond Race honours in the 200m - a Diamond Trophy and $40,000 £26,000/€31,000) prize money - with a victory in 19.87.

But the performance of the night came in the men's 800m, where Ethiopia's 19-year-old world champion Mohammed Aman, the only man to have beaten Olympic champion and world record holder David Rudisha in the last two years, won in 1min 42.37sec, a national record and the fastest time run this year.

Aman finished a couple of strides ahead of the American who took silver behind him at last month's World Championships in Moscow, Nick Symmonds, who clocked a season's best of 1:43.03, with third place going to Kenya's Ferguson Cheruyiot in a personal best of 1:43.22.

Fraser-Pryce also collected Diamond Race honours after a meeting record time - replacing the 10.76 run by Marion Jones in 1997 - that was only one hundredth of a second off the year's best time which she had set in winning her world title in Moscow.

Bolt, who won three world titles last month but did not finish the year as a Diamond Race winner, having finished four points behind Justin Gatlin of the United States in the shorter sprint, commented after finishing ahead of Mike Rodgers of the United States in 9.90 and fellow Jamaican Nesta Carter in 9.94 at the Ivo Van Damme meeting.

"I wanted to run sub-10 seconds, which I have done twice, and I made the World Championship final," said Bolt. 

"I got injured at the start so it was not the perfect season or the best of my career. The best thing is I finished on top.

"My start felt better but I need to work on it. I can definitely run faster."

Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia secured the 5,000m Diamond Race victory by holding off former world champion Bernard Lagat of the United States by 0.24sec to win in 12min 58.75sec.

Former Ethiopian Abebe Aregawi, now running for Sweden, underlined her status as world champion ovr 1500m by producing a victory in 4min 05.41sec, just 0.41sec ahead of Kenya's Mercy Cherono, to finish as Diamond Race winner by the massive margin of 22 points.

Australia's Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson, who salvaged a world silver from a season beset by hamstring injuries, had to settle for fourth place overall in the Diamond Race after finishing second to the United States' 2008 Olympic champion Dawn Harper-Nelson, who clocked a season's best of 12.48 to secure the overall event victory.

Finland's former world javelin champion Tero Pitkamaki, narrowly beaten in the world final by Viteslav Vesely, earned a measure of revenge thanks to a winning effort of 87.32 metres, but Vesely, second in 86.67, claimed the overall event honours.

Teddy Tamgho, France's world triple jump champion, beat Olympic champion Christian Taylor of the United States with an effort of 17.30m.

But Taylor, second in 16.89m, took the Diamond Race trophy.

However, Tamgho's compatriot Rene Lavillenie, who had to settle for silver in Moscow, rounded off an other victorious Diamond League series with a winning effort of 5.96m which was a meeting record.

France's world triple jump champion Teddy Tamgho won in Brussels with an effort of 17.30m
