ride london logoAugust 9 - The online registration system for the ballot for places in the 2014 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 mile race will open on Monday (August 12) following its highly successful debut last weekend.

Next year's event, billed as the "London Marathon on bicycles" will take place on Sunday August 10 as part of another weekend festival of cycling - with the exact route to be confirmed following the full review of this year's event.

More than15,000 competitors from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds took to the streets of London and Surrey for the event this year and following its success huge demand is expected for places in 2014.

The registration system will remain open until 6 January 2014 or until the maximum limit of 80,000 registrations has been reached.

The recreational race will take place alongside events for elite athletes, which included a women's criterium race around St James' Park and the Mall won by Great Britain's double London Olympic champion Laura Trott in 2013.

"Prudential RideLondon is now firmly on the map as one of the greatest cycling events in the world," said Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, after finishing this year's 100 mile event in a more than respectable eight hours.

"It was a great weekend for cycling, and for this city."

Surrey County Council Leader, David Hodge, was similarly pleased and said that "this year's event through Surrey was a truly spectacular celebration of pedal power," before adding:

"I'm sure it has inspired many more people to set the wheels in motion to be on the start line next August for cycling's version of the London Marathon."
