gb wheelchairAugust 2 - London 2012 medalists Lucy Shuker, Jordanne Whiley and Andy Lapthorne join world number six Gordon Reid in being named in the Britain squad for next month's US Open Wheelchair Tennis event in New York City.

All four Britons will make their US Open debuts for the last Grand Slam of the year, which will take place alongside the able-bodied version between September 5 and 8.

Reid is set to contest his second Grand Slam singles event after reaching the men's singles semi-finals and men's doubles final at Roland Garros in June.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles and doubles Shuker and Whiley will both complete their participation in all four Grand Slams, having previously played at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

They were women's doubles finalists together at Wimbledon in 2012 before going on to win the bronze medal together at London 2012.

In the quads, Lapthorne will make his debut at the US Open having previously competed at the Australian Open, where he is a former two-time quad doubles champion with the now retired Peter Norfolk - who remains the only British wheelchair tennis player to have won in New York after he won the quad singles there in 2007 and 2009.

"We are delighted that all four have qualified for this year's US Open," said Geraint Richards, the Tennis Foundation's Head of Disability Player Performance.

"This is a watershed moment for the Tennis Foundation's Wheelchair Tennis performance programme, as it's the first time that British players will contest all three singles and doubles events at a Grand Slam wheelchair tennis event.

"Their qualification is testimony to the hard work of the players and the success of our performance programme and we are indebted to UK Sport for their support, which continues to enable us to help players reach their full potential."

Shinjo Kunieda of Japan leads the men's singles rankings, while Germany's Sabine Ellerbrock heads the women's lists and American David Wagner is ahead of Lapthorne at number one in the quads rankings.
