Bodin Issara having fight 2July 25 - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has today opened disciplinary cases against the two Thailand players who engaged in an altercation during the men's doubles final of Canada Open on Sunday (July 21).

The BWF's Disciplinary Committee have written to Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit - via the Badminton Association of Thailand - outlining a number of alleged breaches against them under their Players' Code of Conduct.

The charges facing Issara consist of oral and physical abuse, inappropriate and unsportsmanlike conduct, and conduct contrary to the integrity of the game, while Jongjit is accused of oral abuse, and both inappropriate and unsportsmanlike conduct.

The two were involved in a remarkable clash during a change of ends in the final, when Issara chased Jongjit onto a neighbouring court before tackling him to the ground and punching him several times to leave him needing two stitches.

Issara was pulled off Jongjit - his former doubles partner - and held by officials, while the now shirtless Jongjit was escorted off the court.

The pair, who together had reached the quarter-finals of Olympics at London 2012, had already received a warning from the referee following a verbal altercation earlier in the match.

Jongjit and his partner Nipitphon Puangpuapech were awarded the victory after Issara and his teammate Pakkawat Vilailak were disqualified.

The Disciplinary Committee will refer to reports from tournament officials, as well as video footage of the incident which has already gone viral online.

Both players were also asked to provide written statements by next Tuesday (July 30).

A decision will then be made as soon as possible.
